By no means have we reached the premium top echelon of nutrition. And there are various things added into our diet that just happen, cause life. As a family with 5 active children and minimum of 6 broken bones put together, our Orthopedic recommended 2000iu of Vitamin D for our children. Also, with their darker skin tone, absorbing the vitamin D they get from the sun – which they are outside A LOT… is not quite enough. So we use Vitamin D3 from Amazon. Only one for our 4 year old, everyone else gets 1 in the morning and 1 at night. For our teenager we have found that magnesium is critical to assist him in keeping his hormones and potential reactions in check. I recommend; Smarty Pants Magnesium (Disclaimer – don’t take advice from a random stranger on the internet, just take her questions to the Dr and ask if your children should follow the same protocol 😉 )
Due to our sport being a reason for all their boogers, we give them Zyrtec and DHist Jr. DHist is a natural supplement that supports the histamine response. Zyrtec is a necessity for them to be able to breathe. When not soccer season, or if on vacations they get a break from Zyrtec. I do not react well to Zyrtec, and I recently was told by our new Allergist, that it is because it passes the blood brain barrier. When I questioned well should we be giving this to our children then? He said they have a fast metabolism so it doesn’t really break the barrier for them. I need to research this. Though one day we had run out of our Zyrtec and gave them some Children’s Claritin we had on hand…well one child was much more irritable, he also is the one who is very sensitive to prednisone steroids and literally climbs the walls, I am not joking, actually literally mean literally. (Costco has had the best price on Zyrtec!)
Costco Multivitamins as for now that is what they will take. They do not like the taste of better ones out there. I am picking my battles.
My smoothies have fruit fruit and more fruit – with Avocado – their favorites, but I have to secretly mix that in, always their favorites but if they see me do it, it’s like there is poison and they refuse to even drink it! Also add Chia seeds – scoops of it. I get ours from Costco. And with our allergy son they love the Vanilla Pea Protein Orgain powder. I have tried the liquid they do not like the consistency of it… even in a smoothie.
Please let me know if you would like me to send you recipes of how we make pancakes for our dairy and egg free son! Or for my smoothie mix! Email ; soccerparentacademy@gmail.com.

Both the Raley’s YouTube and Goluremi Nation have very helpful suggestions for an athlete. And I believe they both clarify – as do I – these are guidelines and have worked for us, but each individual has a different body which responds differently to different foods.
And one more thing, my 14 year old was recently in for his check up. She would love for him to drink almost two of his 64oz jug. This is because 1) Phoenix and 2) averaging 25,000 steps a day.
